Powerlessness has become the defining political sentiment of our time. Daniel Schreiber, born in 1977, is a writer. Through his writing, he has pioneered a new form of the literary essay. His books—*Nüchtern* (2014), *Zuhause* (2017), *Allein* (2021), and *Die Zeit der Verluste* (2023)—were enthusiastically received by literary critics and remained on *SPIEGEL*’s bestseller and nonfiction bestseller lists for months at a time. He lives in Berlin.
