DIE HÖFLICHEN: Geburtstagsshow 5 JAHRE DIE HÖFLICHEN
On June 19, 2026, the literary reading group DIE HÖFLICHEN will celebrate its fifth anniversary and, in cooperation with the Moritzhof Cultural Center in Magdeburg, invites you to a literary birthday celebration. The ensemble will present highlights from past events as well as new pieces, music, and theatrical performances. Applause is encouraged. Founded in 2021 at the Moritzhof, the reading stage DIE HÖFLICHEN has evolved by 2026 into one of the most successful formats and program highlights of the Magdeburg City Library and also takes place as part of other events, such as the annual Culture Night or the State Literature Days. In the five years since 2021, the world has experienced earth-shattering and beautiful things: dictators invade countries; oranges erode democracy; March is suddenly the uncoolest month; Xavier Naidoo is first a conspiracy theorist, then a reformed conspiracy theorist, and now a conspiracy theorist with a focus on food. Somewhere amid all this chaos, a delicate cultural seedling has sprouted—a monthly literary catharsis, framed by a love of language in all its forms and colors, whether as poetry, prose, song, play, anecdote, dialogue, stand-up, and everything in between.
Now, nearly 120 people look forward every month to new writings by Leonard Schubert, Sandy Gärtner, Jessica Denecke, Lars Johansen, Robert Gryczke, and rotating guests. The audience itself decides the theme of each issue.
