A Guide to the Democratic Offensive. Much of what author and political activist Arne Semsrott described in his bestseller *Machtübernahme* as a grim scenario of a right-wing conservative shift has already become a bitter reality. We are currently witnessing a harsh border regime, the denigration of financially disadvantaged people, attacks on democratic civil society, the end of climate protection, and a politics of fear. What can be done to stop the authoritarian shift?In his new book, Arne Semsrott uses numerous concrete examples to show how we can shift from a defensive to an offensive stance, including through:
- strategic legal battles,
- care work based on solidarity,
- our own spaces,
- courageous strikes and the building of collective power,
- civil society crisis aid,
- the fight for fair administration instead of bureaucratic cuts for the rich,
- referendums,
- enthusiasm and humor.
This book proves that we have all the tools we need to turn things around. We just have to use them.
Following the book presentation, we will speak with Arne Semsrott about the current political situation in Saxony-Anhalt, courageous politics, and what is needed now to strengthen democratic civil society.
