Das nomadische Gen
The documentary explores humanity’s nomadic potential. A thirst for discovery and curiosity, as well as flight and spiritual quests, have shaped this nomadic essence. The film follows the artists of Mangan25 on expeditions across six continents. In extreme landscapes such as the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Venezuela, in the eternal ice of the Arctic and the Himalayas, and in various deserts around the world, they encounter extraordinary tribes and stories. The artist collective Mangan25 was founded in 2004 and is an interdisciplinary group with ten members (including Kai-Uwe Kohlschmidt). Together, they have traveled through unusual landscapes, hard-to-reach areas, and extreme locations around the globe. For example, Mangan25 has followed in Leichhardt’s footsteps in the Simpson Desert, conducted climate change research on Spitsbergen, and embarked on a river expedition in the border region between the Neisse and Oder rivers. This river expedition runs through the film DAS NOMADISCHE GEN, from which we are taken to Australia, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, North America, and Papua New Guinea, among other places. Kai-Uwe Kohlschmidt was born in Leipzig. He has been the singer of the band SANDOW since 1982 and works as a director, writer, and composer for film, radio features, and radio plays. With the artist collective Mangan25, he undertakes expeditions worldwide. The travels for his work have taken him to Nanga Parbat, the deserts of Namibia, Australia, and America, the Arctic, and the rainforests of Venezuela. He lives and works in the Spreewald.
