A creative exploration of everyday life together

You can’t choose your family… but you can choose how you want to live together as a family. Yet in everyday life, it’s sometimes not so easy to get everyone on the same page. So let’s set everyday life aside for a few hours and declare a wonderful state of emergency.

WHAT IF YOUR FAMILY WERE A GAME? Who sets the rules? Who invents new ones? Who might cheat a little?

WHAT IF YOUR FAMILY WERE A KINGDOM? Who would be the Minister of Fun, Bedtime, Food, or Adventure?

WHAT IF THERE WERE NO MORE “HAVES” OR “MUSTs”? Would we then do nothing at all? Would everything be fun?

WHAT IF THE CLOCKS WENT OUT OF SYNC? Would everything speed up? Slow down? Would there be chaos, or would we find peace? Who sets the pace?

In this intergenerational workshop, children, teens, and adults come together to explore exactly these kinds of questions with curiosity. Through play, conversation, and creative experiments, we’ll investigate the pitfalls of everyday life, gather materials — and create new everyday objects. The workshop thrives on the participation of different age groups. That’s why entire families are just as welcome as individual curious family members—children, teens, parents, grandparents, or other caregivers.

  • Workshop duration: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Workshop leaders: Juliane Barz, Katrin Maiwald und Pauri Röwert (Initiative Theater & Adultismus)

The Theater & Adultism Initiative was founded in August 2024 and uses artistic interventions, workshops, training programs, and consultations to examine power dynamics between young people and adults in the context of art and cultural education. The goal is to challenge and transform these structures. A collaborative approach is central to its work: the initiative does not work on behalf of children and young people, but rather together with them, developing all formats on-site.

Among those benefiting from the initiative’s initiatives are the Tanzhaus Düsseldorf, the Cultural Committee at Spielraum TPZ in Braunschweig, Herbie e.V. Leipzig, and the Doxs Ruhr Documentary Film Festival. https://www.initiative-theater-adultismus.de/index.html

This event is part of the Young ARTists! #generations project and is supported by the City of Magdeburg, the Humanas Foundation, LOTTO Saxony-Anhalt, and the Sparkasse Magdeburg Youth Work Foundation. Thank you!
