The Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, New York, first opened its doors in 1926. Generations of famous dancers and musicians were shaped here and, in turn, shaped what we know today as swing. The club’s no-discrimination policy made it possible, above all, for aspiring Black talents to perform, thereby enriching jazz and driving its creative evolution. In open evening lectures and discussion sessions, we will embark on a journey through 100 years of Lindy Hop using archival footage and interviews.
