Sukini: Da haben wir den Salat
Honest, direct, and genuine—that’s how Sukini experiences all the people, especially the younger ones, she meets at her concerts. Her interaction with the audience is also honest, direct, and genuine. Instead of artificial staging and fast-paced music products, Sukini chooses a different path: themes that stem from her own lived reality and engagement with contemporary issues, as well as artistic decisions that take precedence over commercial ones. The title track “Da haben wir den Salat” is also honest, direct, and immediate. Time and again, children at her concerts had asked for a song about animals. The result is now a vegan song about (not) eating animals, which conveys animal rights and the importance of animal welfare in an age-appropriate way. Politically sustainable: music that takes time and gives time! “Da haben wir den Salat” celebrates children and rebellion. Sukini, known in the hip-hop scene for years as Sookee, once again delivers music for children on her second album—music that adults are welcome to listen to as well. After nearly 20 years as a queer-feminist rapper, Sukini now extends another invitation to everyone—to grow alongside the music, and at the same time with the themes and discussions that Sukini addresses and processes in her lyrics, sometimes loudly, sometimes quietly.
